As a review two days later, I used the number web again for even numbers. I talked to my math coach about the number web and she have me an idea to apply even numbers to the real world. She told me to ask the students to look for objects with even numbers in the real world, like a car having four wheels, and an 18-wheeler truck. I asked my students to look for even numbers in the world and they had a little trouble with the concept at first. I gave them an example: a pair of shoes and the body has two eyes and ears. Once I gave them that example, they got the hang of it and started naming objects, but soon, they got caught up on the body parts. I asked them to think a little bigger, and soon they were naming objects with even numbers like pros!
Overall, I think the review lesson went well. I think the students were able to show their understanding of even numbers on multiple occasions and I was really thankful for the idea to apply math to the real world. This is not something I have though of before and I really like the concept. I intend to try and do this more often. I think that it is valuable for students to see math in the real world.
