I believe that it is important to care for your students. Obviously, we all want our students to learn and grow as people, but being a teacher should be more than providing them with a quality education. We have to show that we care for our students on a personal level. Greeting them in the morning, asking them about their weekend, celebrating their birthdays and successes in school, and being there when they need someone to talk to. When you, as a teacher, show genuine care and concern for your students, they will, in turn, care for you.
Last week, I came down with a horrible cold. My nose was all stuffed up, I was coughing all of the time, and I felt awful. But I still came to school. My students obviously noticed that I was sick and they were asking if I was okay. They were worried about my well-being. I truly appreciated that they were worried about me. One of my students even made me a "Get well soon" card.
