I want to become a teacher I am passionate about helping children. I want to help them reach their full potential, to show them that they can learn, be smart, and succeed at anything they set their minds to. I want to inspire students to want to learn and want to come to school.
2. Five years after your students have left your classroom, what do you want them to say about you as a person? About your teaching? And about the learning that occurred during their time with you?
As a person, I want my students to say that I was someone who showed them I really cared about them. I want them to think that I tried my best to provide them with the best education that I could deliver. I want them to say that I was someone they could look up to, that I was a role model. I want my students to say that my teaching was given to them in a way that they could understand and learn from. That I tried to teach them to the best of my abilities and that I tried to meet the educational needs of each and everyone of my students. That I tried to adapt my teaching so everyone had a chance to learn. I want them to say that they learned more than just school lessons from me. I want them to learn moral lessons, lessons from the stories I read to them. Lessons about responsibility, and learning about themselves as a student, that they can achieve their dreams.
3. Why should students learn the content that you teach?
Students should learn the content that I teach because it will be valuable to them in the future, even though they may not realize it now. I would try to explain how they will use what they learn in my classroom in the future and how it will relate to their lives now.
4. How will you know that you have taught a successful lesson? How do you know when your students have learned what you hoped to convey?
I will know I have taught a successful lesson because I would have performed an assessment, and assessed how well they learned the information. Also, I will know the lesson was successful and know that the students learned what I hoped to convey by the way they answer the questions I ask about the lesson, if they answer them correctly or not. Also, if they use what they learn outside of the classroom or after the lesson.
5. If I were a new student in your classroom and asked you what do you expect from me? how would you respond?
I would direct the student to the rules and norms of the classroom that would be posted. I would say stuff like, I would want respect from you, to listen to the teacher, to be respectful to other students, to behave well and to complete your homework.
6. If I were a parent of a new student and asked you to describe the learning environment in your classroom, how would you respond?
I would say it is a very student-centered learning environment. I would want my learning environment to have opportunities for students to ask questions, figure things out for themselves, discover alongside me, and classmates. I would want a lot of group activities so students can learn from each other and for themselves.
7. What analogy would you use to describe what you hope to be as a teacher?
The analogy I would use is teaching is a learning experience, you learn something new everyday alongside your students.
