On Friday, we went around and listened to a lot of different presentations. We went to one that talked about how the different common core competencies have the same language and the same goals, just in different subjects. They talked about how we can combine the goals and use the same language to show more similarities instead of differences between the subjects. In the presentation, I also suggested that we, as preservice teachers, have a course where we are taught how to make our lessons interdisciplinary. We also went to a presentation where they talked about using doing an investigation to decide if the street in front of their school needed a crosswalk. I liked this presentation because it reminded me of the STEM Lessons we designed in class. Their students actually went outside and collected data about traffic, and used that data to determine the need for a crosswalk. I think it is valuable to use real life applications while teaching, like this presentation did. We also went to a presentation about using inquiry in school. We also watched our instructors present on how the graduating class of the UTRPP is doing during their first year of teaching. It was reassuring to know that most of the graduates were successful in their jobs. I also learned where their difficulties are which allows me to focus on those areas in the last few months of my internship and in my future job.
On Saturday, I presented my inquiry during the student poster session. I did mine on learning how to make a culturally responsive classroom.
